What is Reflux, What are its Effects?
What Triggers Reflux?
Today, the number of people suffering from reflux is increasing due to unhealthy eating habits. Reflux is known as the backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus. Since these contents are made of acids, there is a burning sensation starting from the stomach and extending to the throat and mouth. This burning sensation can make daily life, and even sleep, unbearable. The constant acid taste in the mouth and the burning in the upper parts cause both pain and negatively affect eating habits.
Reflux Symptoms and Treatment
The primary trigger for reflux is diet. Fatty fried foods and dishes, colds, processed foods, pastries, and sweets are foods that significantly exacerbate reflux. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid these foods as much as possible. Since the fluids that come from the stomach to the esophagus cause damage in this area, constant attention must be paid to dietary habits. For some, reflux is a chronic condition. However, some can prevent it simply by being careful. Reflux is congenital in some and develops later in others. During pregnancy, reflux can start due to vomiting and nausea, and for some, this condition persists permanently. A few sips of cold milk can be consumed when lying down at night or during periods when the burning intensifies. Reflux medications can be beneficial.
