What is Top Coat Paint?

Top coat paint, which has high gloss and hiding power, is called alkyd-based paint. These paints, applied to surfaces such as doors, windows, wood, railings, etc., also come in different color options. While varying depending on the floor and environment, paints applied as a single coat have different weights. You can research for detailed information on the page. When storing paints sold in tin pails and cans, dry and clean environments should be preferred, and at the same time, the container holding the paint should not be exposed to sunlight.

Surface Preparation and Application of Top Coat Paint

Top coat paint is equipped with superior features. These features are as follows:

  • It is highly resistant to chemical cleaning materials used in homes.
  • It is resistant to impacts.
  • Its hiding power is quite high.
  • Its resistance to dust and dirt is high.
  • It can be applied with a brush and there is no possibility of leaving any marks.
  • Top coat paint, which is also extremely resistant to yellowing, also offers superior performance in terms of spreading ability.

Before applying top coat paint and primer, the surfaces must be cleaned and prepared for paint application. First, a primer should be applied to the surface, which has been cleared of dust, moisture, and oil. Any flaking paint on the underlying layer should be cleaned. Also, application should never be made on damp surfaces, and the surface must be freed from moisture. Considering the surface property, after applying a primer under the paint, the application can be started after thinning the paint with 10% to 15% thinner. After application with a roller or brush, 24 hours should pass to prepare for the second coat, and it should be ensured that the paint is completely dry. Paints that are dust-free within 5 to 7 hours are flammable and can cause health problems if they come into contact with the eyes. For this reason, necessary precautions must be taken for application.
