What is a Foam Extinguishing System?
Fire escapes, which have become mandatory in schools, dormitories, hospitals, health centers, prisons, reformatories, hotels, boarding houses, restaurants, shopping malls, workplaces, factories, and apartment buildings, are extremely important for human health. In case of natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, or situations like fires and terrorist attacks, fire escapes help in easily evacuating buildings, thus preventing potential loss of life. These stairs, implemented in two types, Z-type and circular, have their usage dimensions per building specified in the regulation issued in July 2002. They are particularly applied in multi-story buildings and crowded buildings housing many people. Additionally, the presence of fire cabinets in buildings is of great importance in preventing the spread of fire. Foam is used in the application of all kinds of flammable liquid chemicals and fuels. Especially in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, foam extinguishing systems prevent fires from growing. Based on their chemical properties, protein-based, film-forming, alcohol-resistant, and synthetic-based foam extinguishing systems are widely used in the petrochemical industry, fuel transfer stations, ports, and aircraft hangars.
What are the Types of Sprinklers?
Sprinklers, used to prevent the spread of fire, trigger an audible alarm during a fire and activate the water flow. The main types of sprinklers include standard response, automatic, fast response, suspended ceiling, residential type, dry type, wall type, wide coverage medium hazard class sprinkler, wide coverage low hazard class sprinkler, ESFR sprinkler, large droplet, and extra large orifice sprinklers. Among these, automatic sprinklers used in conjunction with fire cabinets are the most common. Sprinklers that activate automatically when the space reaches 86 degrees Celsius are connected to a pressurized hose network. When they reach their operating temperature, the internal connection material melts. The sprinkler begins to spray water when the bulb inside bursts. Simultaneously, the alarm system is activated to provide a warning. Foam sprinkler systems, foam generators, and foam monitor systems are designed to operate automatically and manually. Foam extinguishing systems, used in areas with flammable materials, prevent rapid fire growth, thus averting loss of life and property.
