What is an Encoder and Where is it Used?

Encoder Technologies

Encoders, which provide industrial control, are a type of sensor. These control systems, frequently used in glass-marble-cement woodworking machines, are also used in textile, leather processing, crane bridge crane presses, printing-packaging machines, workbenches, robots, measuring instruments, plotters, sheet metal processing, scale balances, antenna production, telescope designs, medical device manufacturing, and door control devices. You can examine and purchase encoder designs on the pages.

Absolute and Incremental Encoder in Encoder Selection

Different technologies are used to generate signals in encoder systems. These signals are generated using magnetic, mechanical, and resistive optical signals. The most commonly used signalization type in encoders is optical signalization. This is because the optical encoder in encoders provides feedback even in case of light interruption and is capable of transmitting data. Encoder systems are examined in two categories based on shaft and connection types: Hollow Shaft Encoder and Shaft Encoder. In encoder technologies, signal detections are divided into magnetic and optical detection. In terms of position options, there are two types: Absolute Encoder and Incremental Encoder. In absolute encoders, power determines the position by providing outputs differentiated by digital bit sequences according to the rotating shaft in the system. Even in power outages, the system remains in its last position and continues its functionality without interruption when power is restored. Incremental encoder: In incremental encoder technologies, the rotating shaft continuously produces square signals, providing position information and allowing for counting. Unlike the other type, this second type of encoder stops in case of power outages and, when power is restored, shows the position as 0 and continues to operate. Incremental encoders are generally used in medical devices, packaging-bagging machines, leather machines, industrial robots, CNC machines, antenna production, and bottling machines.
