Why Do We Sleep, What Should We Do for Healthy Sleep?
Sleep is as essential for a healthy life as eating and drinking. Neurology specialists state that insomnia disrupts life balance. Experts emphasize that 1 in every 5 million people living in Turkey has a sleep problem, and underline that sleep problems must be treated for a healthy life. Why Do We Sleep? Sleep is an action necessary for the human body to rest and renew itself. With sleep, all growth, testosterone, thyroid, melatonin, and prolactin hormones are secreted. These hormones, which ensure the body's balance and are indispensable for a healthy life, are secreted during night sleep. In cases of sleeplessness, imbalances occur because the hormones necessary for the body are not secreted. For healthy sleep, one should sleep in a quiet environment. Stimulants such as television and computers should not be in the bedroom. One should drink warm milk or read a book before going to bed. Caffeinated beverages should not be consumed before bedtime. The room temperature should be at a comfortable level for sleep. Taking a warm shower also helps you transition to a restful sleep.
