How to Descale a Steam Iron

How to Descale a Steam Iron
Why Irons Accumulate Limescale The water tank of irons can accumulate limescale over time. Limescale, which is mostly caused by hard and calcareous tap water, reduces the iron's performance if not addressed in time. Therefore, you should regularly clean and maintain your steam iron to prevent it from becoming scaled. Limescale in the iron can also cause clothes to get stained during ironing. If you want to avoid such a problem, you should put quality water in your iron's water tank. While some iron brands say using tap water is not a problem, some brands agree that the most ideal water for an iron is boiled and cooled water. Descaling an Iron Although irons produced today have a self-cleaning feature, irons should still be descaled regularly. You should definitely perform the descaling process, especially if yellow water is flowing from the soleplate of your iron. Fill the water tank of your iron and turn the temperature to the highest level. After your iron has heated up, unplug it and press and hold the steam button of your iron to allow the sediment at the soleplate to flow out due to the pressure effect. This way, your iron will be as clean as new.
